Our Mission

History

Family Service Center was originally founded in 1816 as the Ladies Benevolent Society, when Columbia was just a 25-year-old village. Tradition has it that a Columbia matron returned from a years stay in England, full of enthusiasm for the social reform that was the rage in London at the time. She organized a group of women, representing all religions, and founded a society to help, the sick, the hungry and the wayward.
