Teens In Control is the youth advisory council for Newberry County You First. We are teens from Mid-Carolina and Newberry High schools. Our group provides a youth perspective for You First program planning, and we provide awareness about teen pregnancy and other issues affecting young people. We use creative activities, such as short videos, peer norm campaigns, etc. to help teens avoid risky situations. Of course, we know that regardless of prior knowledge, people will get into certain situations, so we also discuss refusal skills, effective communication in relationships, and other ways to avoid pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases / infections (STDs / STIs). We emphasize abstinence and resources for safer sex. We want teens to know all about sex and what can result from it.
